Various thinkers have pointed out that leftism is a kind of religion albeit not in the strict sense of the word, due to the fact that it does not include, nor claim the existence of, any supernatural being. But for the leftist, its philosophy plays a psychological role much like religion does for some people. The leftist needs to believe in leftism, and this is not easily modified by logic or facts. There is a deep conviction that leftism is morally right with a capital “R” and has, not only a right, but a duty to impose leftism morality on everyone. Worse, many leftists do not recognize themselves as leftists, nor think their system of beliefs, as ‘leftism’. Because we, on the whole, don’t know of any better words to designate the spectrum of related creeds including: feminism, gay rights, political correctness… etc, movements that primarily have a strong affinity with the old left.
The leftists drive is for totalitarianism and power. They actually get the sense of power from the struggle and reaching a goal, the problem lies in that it derives satisfaction, but results in a drive for more.
No one can have a negative attitude toward homosexuality, disabled people, fat people, ugly people, and on and on and on. Where is the freedom we have as individuals, and personal free will? Are we all to be automatons? For example: It’s not enough to be informed about the hazards of smoking, with a warning stamped also on each pack, and cigarette advertising on TV being banned, they actually want tobacco to be outlawed. What next? Junk food? Then while the fight against child abuse was good, it now has become, that spanking your child has become outlawed.
