Reality: The system cannot be reformed (corruption excised) in such a way as to reconcile Freedom with technology, as it would mean that the entire Industrial technological system would have to be dispensed with.
If that would happen, it implies and assures a Revolution, not necessarily an armed uprising, but certainly a radical and fundamental change in the nature of society itself. People tend to assume that because a revolution involves a much greater change than reform does, it therefore is more difficult to bring about than reform. Actually, under certain circumstances, revolution is much easier. All it takes is “the straw that broke the camels back”, or in other words… Enough is Enough!
This can inspire an intensity of commitment that nothing else inspires. Remember, a reform movement only offers a solution to a particular social problem.
A revolutionary movement offers to solve all problems with one stroke in order to create a whole new world. It provides the ideal for which people will take great risks and make great sacrifices. This is one reason a person running for president, using this platform to make promises of hope and change appeals to the people. Once the people begin to realize: the ideals spoken of, the change spoken of, the openness spoken of, all fall short as paper promises it becomes the “straw that broke the camel’s back”, and results in…Revolution! Tea Parties! Just as the event leading to the 1776 revolution was the precursor to the actual revolt.
It is easier to overthrow the entire system than to place rules and restraints in place, which actually enhances the system. It becomes harder to control and monitor it. Not many people will devote themselves with the passion needed to maintain a system when its core is still corrupted.
Revolt unites everyone with the same cause, while reform is always looked at with caution, and is usually riddled with other consequences. Remember, the system is diseased with corruption!!…read more in the book.
