Computer scientists succeed in developing intelligent machines that can do all things better than human beings can. So all work will be done by a vast, highly organized system of machines where no human effort will be necessary. Either of the two cases might occur. The machines might be permitted to make all of their own decisions without human oversight; an option would be to retain some human control over them. If the machines are permitted to make all their own decisions, then we can’t make any conjectures as to the results, because it isn’t possible to guess, as we have no involvement. Actually the fate of the human society is at the mercy of the machines. Now, substitute the name government/system in place of machines. That is socialism.
It could be argued, that people would never be foolish enough to hand over all power to the system, but here’s the ‘kicker’. It begins very subtly, and creeps into every aspect, until one day everyone realizes that all their power is gone. Worse, the system convinces the people how much better everyone and everything will be and since everyone has problems, it seems to be a perfect solution. But, has society forgotten “If it’s too good to be true, then it is” and in that time of amnesia, everyone sells their souls to the system. The outcome? Dependence on the system; aimless, purposeless and defeated. The fall of an empire. When the full impact hits society, they can’t turn off the machine (government) and take back control. Too much complexity...read more in the book.
